CARNAVAL - ORIGEM E SIGNIFICADO

                                            O R I G E M

De origem incerta, embora seja encontrado já no latim medieval, como carnem levare ou carnelevarium, palavra dos séculos XI e XII, que significava a véspera da quarta-feira de cinzas, isto é, a hora em que começava a abstinência da carne durante os quarenta dias nos quais, no passado, os católicos eram proibidos pela igreja de comer carne.A etimologia de “Carnaval”.é explicada pelos historiadores que se baseiam a partir dos termos do latim tardio “carne vale”, isto é, “adeus carne” ou “despedida da carne”; esta derivação indicaria que no Carnaval o consumo de carne era considerado ilícito nos dias de jejum quaresmal. - Outros estudiosos recorrem à expressão “carnem levare”, suspender ou retirar a carne: o Papa São Gregório Magno teria dado ao último domingo antes da Quaresma, ou seja, ao domingo da Qüinquagésima, o título de “dominica ad carnes levandas”; a expressão haveria sido sucessivamente, carneval ou carnaval”. - Um terceiro grupo de etimologistas apela para as origens pagãs do Carnaval: entre os gregos e romanos costumava-se exibir um préstito em forma de nave dedicada ao deus Dionísio ou Baco, préstito ao qual em latim se dava o nome de currus navalis: donde a forma Carnavale.
A origem do carnaval é obscura. É possível que suas raízes se encontrem num festival religioso primitivo, pagão, que homenageava o início do Ano Novo e o ressurgimento da natureza, mas há quem diga que suas primeiras manifestações ocorreram na Roma dos césares, ligadas às famosas saturnálias, de caráter orgíaco. Contudo, o rei Momo é uma das formas de Dionísio — o deus Baco, patrono do vinho e do seu cultivo, e isto faz recuar a origem do carnaval para a Grécia arcaica, para os festejos que honravam a colheita. Sempre uma forma de comemorar, com muita alegria e desenvoltura, os atos de alimentar-se e beber, elementos indispensáveis à vida.

O Carnaval é um período de festas regidas pelo ano lunar no Cristianismo da Idade Média. O período do Carnaval era marcado pelo "adeus à carne" ou "carne vale" dando origem ao termo "Carnaval". Durante o período do Carnaval havia uma grande concentração de festejos populares. Cada cidade brincava a seu modo, de acordo com seus costumes. Diante desta relação espiritual podemos concluir que esta é uma festa da opressão demoníaca, principalmente porque teve origem nos deuses pagãos, sendo seqüenciado pela idolatria da igreja católica.
Para a Igreja, diante da  sutileza espiritual desta festa estamos diante de uma batalha espiritual. Não é só uma festa da carne. É uma festa do diabo.

                                                           CARNAVAL ANTIGO

O Carnaval moderno, feito de desfiles e fantasias, é produto da sociedade vitoriana do século XIX. Paris foi o principal modelo exportador da festa carnavalesca. No Brasil, atualmente, o carnaval é considerado uma das festas populares mais animadas e representativas do mundo. Tem sua origem no entrudo português, onde, no passado, as pessoas jogavam uma nas outras, água, ovos e farinha.
